Product: Abaqus/CAE
Benefits: Abaqus/CAE now provides improved performance and usability for the display of geometry and meshes.
Description: Abaqus/CAE includes the following display improvements:
Abaqus/CAE offers several changes that improve display performance and memory consumption:
Models with shell geometry now require less memory.
When you open a model database that contains a large number of parts and part instances, Abaqus/CAE loads the parts and instances on demand, based on the parts or part instances that you display. This enhancement provides improved performance and optimized memory usage.
Abaqus/CAE provides improved memory usage on Windows 32-bit systems. When you reach a user-specified percentage of the total memory allocated to the kernel, Abaqus/CAE optimizes display data to enable you to carry out more operations with the available amount of memory.
Abaqus/CAE now uses coarse curve refinement by default to display the curved faces or curved edges in a part or part instance. This modified setting provides improved performance and requires less memory, especially when you are working with a large number of part instances or if you are working on parts with very complex geometry. You can override this default behavior to use a finer curve refinement setting by changing the Curve refinement setting in the Part Display Options dialog box.
Extra Fine curve refinement is intended for the display of small parts and assemblies because this setting prompts Abaqus/CAE to display geometry using a larger number of facets than it uses for the coarser curve refinement settings. When you use extra fine curve refinement, Abaqus/CAE now provides an optimized refinement that captures geometry curvature better while consuming significantly less memory and processor time.
Abaqus/CAE provides performance improvements for mesh display on systems with graphics hardware that does not support display lists. The largest performance improvement occurs when you use display groups for mesh display or when you manipulate your view of an assembly that has many elements.
If your computer's graphics hardware does not support display lists, Abaqus/CAE sets the default drag mode setting for view manipulation to Fast when you start your session. You can override this setting using the View Manipulation options in the Graphics Options dialog box. When display lists are disabled and the drag mode is fast, Abaqus/CAE draws only the feature edges for mesh elements in your model during view manipulation, regardless of the mesh edge visibility options in the Part Display Options dialog box or the Assembly Display Options dialog box. These changes provide improved default performance.
