2.11 Exchanging Abaqus/CAE data with Microsoft Excel

Product: Abaqus/CAE

Benefits: You can now import amplitude data or X–Y data from a Microsoft Excel workbook to Abaqus/CAE, and you can export these types of data from Abaqus/CAE to a Microsoft Excel workbook. This enhancement provides more flexibility for editing and viewing amplitudes and X–Y data objects.

Description: The Excel Utilities plug-in, shown in Figure 2–5, enables you to exchange amplitude data and X–Y data between Abaqus/CAE and Excel.

Figure 2–5 Importing X–Y data from Excel to Abaqus/CAE.

When you import data from Excel, you specify the Excel file and worksheet from which you want to import data and the row and column where the data begin. Abaqus/CAE imports the data and creates the appropriate object in Abaqus/CAE: for amplitude data, a new amplitude object is created in the current model; for X–Y data, a new X–Y data object is created in the current session. For amplitude data, you can also classify the newly created amplitude object as tabular data or smooth step data.

When you export data to Excel, you specify the amplitudes or X–Y data objects that you want to display in spreadsheet form. Upon export, Abaqus/CAE creates a new Excel workbook that displays the data in tabular format and plots the data in a chart. You can export and plot any X–Y data object in your session, including the plot currently displayed in the viewport. For amplitude objects, you can export and plot data sets for tabular or smooth step amplitudes.

Note:  The Excel Utilities plug-in is available only for Windows platforms running the 32-bit version of the operating system.
