4.1 Adding descriptions for models and materials in your Abaqus/CAE model

Product: Abaqus/CAE

Benefits: Abaqus/CAE offers expanded editing capabilities for entering model and material descriptions; the descriptions are also written to the input file during job submission.

Description: Abaqus/CAE now provides the ability to enter descriptions for the model and for the materials in your model in a separate editor. Previously, only a single line text entry field was available for the model description. The new description editors allow you to view a larger portion of the content, making it easier to read and edit the notes for the model and the materials. To access the new functionality, click the Edit button from the model attributes editor or the materials editor.

When you submit the job for analysis, Abaqus/CAE generates an input file and writes the model and material descriptions to the input file using comment lines. The comment lines for the model description immediately precede the header of the input file, and the comment lines for the material descriptions immediately precede the material definitions. For example, you can add a model description in Abaqus/CAE, as shown in Figure 4–1.

This model description is written to the input file as follows:
** Knee bolster impact analysis with general contact.
** Simulation represents 15mph to dead stop crash event.
*Heading
** Job name: KneeBolsterImpact Model name: Model-1

For related information on using descriptions, see Importing model and material descriptions from an Abaqus input file, Section 5.1.
