4.10 Copying, linking, and excluding part instances

Product: Abaqus/CAE

Benefits: The ability to copy and link part instances simplifies the process of creating and updating models. You can exclude a part instance so that it does not participate in the analysis but is available for all other operations.

Description: You can now copy part instances between models. You can link part instances in one model to part instances in a different model; the parts associated with the instances are also linked. Linking part instances allows instances and parts to be updated automatically when you modify the instance or part in the original model. Linked part instances and parts are not editable. The position of the linked child instance is solely determined from the position of the parent instance and cannot be updated.

If you exclude part instances, Abaqus/CAE does not write the part instances to the input file when you submit the job for analysis. An excluded part instance participates in all operations other than the analysis. In contrast to suppressing and resuming a part instance, if you exclude a part instance and subsequently include the part instance, the constraints associated with the instance are retained.

You can link and exclude part instances in one model to make them available for display purposes in another model; for example, when you perform an Abaqus/Standard to Abaqus/Explicit co-simulation and want to view the “whole” co-simulation model.

Icons are displayed in the Model Tree to indicate the linked status of parts and part instances and the excluded status of part instances. By default, linked parts and part instances are colored gray and excluded part instances are colored dark gray in the viewport.
