5.1 Importing model and material descriptions from an Abaqus input file

Product: Abaqus/CAE

Benefits: The ability to import model and material descriptions from an Abaqus input file improves the usability of Abaqus/CAE.

Description: Model descriptions and material descriptions that appear as comment lines in input files are imported into Abaqus/CAE. The comment lines that immediately precede the header of the input file store the model description, which is available in the model attributes editor upon import. The comment lines that immediately precede the material and material behavior definitions store the material descriptions, which are available from the material editor upon import. The following input file sample contains comment lines to store descriptions for materials and material behaviors:

** AISI 1030 Steel
** Normalized at 925C
*Material, name=MATERIAL-1
**Uniform material density
*Density
 7870,
Upon import into Abaqus/CAE, these descriptions populate the material description editor, as shown in Figure 5–1.

The comment lines may have been added to the input file manually or written to the input file by Abaqus/CAE when the job was submitted for analysis. For related information on using descriptions, see Adding descriptions for models and materials in your Abaqus/CAE model, Section 4.1.
