Product: Abaqus/CAE
Benefits: Abaqus/CAE now provides improved performance for surface meshing on spline faces and on faces that have been combined using virtual topology. In addition, when you mesh a virtually combined group of surfaces, the resulting mesh adheres more closely to the underlying surface geometry.
Description: Abaqus/CAE includes the following enhancements that improve the performance and quality of surface meshing:
You can now mesh spline faces and virtual combined faces with triangular elements or with quadrilateral elements more quickly than in previous releases. The largest performance gains occur when you mesh either type of face with quadrilateral elements using the advancing front technique. In some cases, Abaqus/CAE 6.9 can mesh the surface as much as 10 times faster than Abaqus/CAE 6.8.
When you mesh surfaces that have been combined using virtual topology, Abaqus/CAE now reduces the deviations that can occur between the virtual combined surfaces and the resulting surface meshes.
When you mesh a part using triangular or tetrahedral elements or when you use the advancing front algorithm to create a quadrilateral-dominated mesh, Abaqus/CAE can now adjust or add seeds to produce the mesh. This improves meshing success, especially when using relatively coarse seeds on parts with narrow sections. Abaqus/CAE issues a warning if the changes would require remeshing previously meshed regions.
When you mesh parts with tetrahedral elements, Abaqus/CAE can automatically refine the boundary mesh as needed in areas where intersections occur. Abaqus/CAE issues a warning before refining a previewed boundary mesh.
