14.4 Querying angles and mass properties

Product: Abaqus/CAE

Benefits: The Angle and Mass properties general queries, formerly available only in part- and assembly-related modules, are now also available in the Visualization module.

Description: You can now query the output database in the Visualization module to obtain angles and mass properties. The selection methods for the angle and mass properties queries in the Visualization module differ from the corresponding general queries in other modules to take advantage of the mesh-based objects available in the output database. To query an angle in the Visualization module, you must select three nodes instead of the two intersecting lines or planes that you would select in the model database. Likewise, in the Visualization module you can query the mass properties of elements, part instances, element sets, sections, materials, element types, or display groups.

The results of an angle query include the deformed model results when applicable. If you use the angle query on an undeformed plot, Abaqus/CAE displays the coordinates of each node and the resulting angle in the message area. In addition, if you select nodes from a deformed plot, Abaqus/CAE displays the deformation scale factor, the deformed coordinates (scaled and unscaled), and the displacement of each node; the resulting angle is displayed in both undeformed and deformed coordinates.

The results for a mass properties query in the Visualization module are identical to those for mass properties queries in other modules; Abaqus/CAE displays the following information in the message area:
