16.2 Changes in Abaqus options

This section summarizes the changes and the additions that have been made to the options that define an Abaqus model.

mod(S)(E)  *AMPLITUDE

A new option format allows you to enter amplitude values in two entries per data line for tabular amplitudes and one entry per data line for equally spaced amplitudes.

mod(S)(E)  *CAP HARDENING

Use the new SCALESTRESS parameter to scale the yield stress specified on the data lines.

mod(S)  *COMPLEX FREQUENCY

Use the new UNSTABLE MODES ONLY parameter to output only unstable complex modes.

mod(S)  *CONTACT

This option can now be used to define a general contact interaction in Abaqus/Standard.

mod(S)  *CONTACT CONTROLS

Use the new PERTURBATION TANGENT SCALE FACTOR parameter to scale the tangential contact stiffness during linear perturbation steps.

mod(E)  *CONTACT CONTROLS ASSIGNMENT

Use TYPE=EDGE TRACKING (default) to activate the edge-to-edge tracking algorithm that was the default in prior releases. Use TYPE=ENHANCED EDGE TRACKING to activate a faster tracking algorithm.

mod(S)  *CONTACT EXCLUSIONS

This option can now be used to define excluded surfaces in an Abaqus/Standard general contact interaction.

mod(S)  *CONTACT FORMULATION

Use TYPE=MASTER SLAVE ROLES to specify master and slave surface assignments in an Abaqus/Standard general contact interaction.

mod(S)  *CONTACT INCLUSIONS

This option can now be used to define included surfaces in an Abaqus/Standard general contact interaction.

new(S)  *CONTACT INITIALIZATION ASSIGNMENT

Set PROGRAM=ABAQUS to exchange data between Abaqus analyses in an Abaqus/Standard to Abaqus/Explicit co-simulation.

Use the new TIME MARKS parameter to control the enforcement of data exchange target times during a co-simulation.

Set CRITERION=MAXPE to specify a damage initiation criterion based on the maximum principal strain for enriched elements. Set CRITERION=MAXPS to specify a damage initiation criterion based on the maximum principal stress for enriched elements. Use the new TOLERANCE parameter to specify the tolerance within which the damage initiation criterion must be satisfied; this parameter can be used only in conjunction with the maximum principal stress or maximum principal strain criterion.

Use the new PEINC parameter to define the accumulated increment in equivalent plastic strain used to trigger the evaluation of the MSFLD damage initiation criterion.

Specify an enriched feature and the properties of the enrichment in a model.

new(S)  *ENRICHMENT ACTIVATION

Activate or deactivate an enriched feature within the step definition.

mod(E)  *EOS SHEAR

Use the new DEFINITION parameter to define the viscosity model for a viscous shear behavior definition.

Use the new PROPERTIES parameter to specify the number of property values in a user-defined shear behavior definition.

new(E)  *EULERIAN BOUNDARY

Specify inflow and outflow conditions at the boundaries of an Eulerian mesh.

mod(E)  *FILTER

Use the new OPERATOR parameter to obtain maximum and minimum values for output variables during an analysis. Use the new LIMIT parameter to define cap values for the minimum and maximum output values. Use the new HALT parameter to stop an analysis when the output variables reach the specified cap value.

mod(E)  *FLUID EXCHANGE ACTIVATION

Use the new DELTA LEAKAGE AREA parameter to define a ratio of actual surface area over initial surface area at which fluid will leak.

Set USER=FRIC to define the tangential stress through user subroutine VFRIC for Abaqus/Explicit with the contact pair algorithm and FRIC for Abaqus/Standard.

Set USER=COEFFICIENT to define the friction coefficient through user subroutine VFRIC_COEF for Abaqus/Explicit and FRIC_COEF for Abaqus/Standard.

Set USER=FRICTION to define the tangential stress through user subroutine VFRICTION for Abaqus/Explicit with the general contact algorithm.

mod(S)(E)  *INITIAL CONDITIONS

Set TYPE=ENRICHMENT to specify the initial location of an enriched feature.

Set TYPE=NODE REF COORDINATE to define a reference mesh for membrane elements using node numbers.

new(E)  *LOW DENSITY FOAM

Specify properties for a low-density foam.

mod(S)(E)  *NODE OUTPUT

Use the new GLOBAL parameter to specify whether vector-valued nodal variables are written in global or local directions.

mod(E)  *OUTPUT

The FILTER parameter can now be used to apply filtering to field output.

mod(S)(E)  *PLASTIC

Use the new SCALESTRESS parameter to scale the yield stress specified on the data lines.

mod(E)  *RESTART

Use the new SINGLE parameter to write restart data in single precision during a double-precision analysis.

rem(S)  *RETAINED EIGENMODES

This option to specify the modes that are included in a substructure generation analysis has been replaced by *SELECT EIGENMODES.

A scale factor for the frequency can now be specified on the data lines.

Define a subcycling zone.

mod(E)  *SURFACE INTERACTION

Set USER=INTERACTION to define the contact stresses and heat flux through user subroutine VUINTERACTION for Abaqus/Explicit with the general contact algorithm. Use the new TRACKING THICKNESS parameter to specify the surface regions whose interactions are defined through user subroutine VUINTERACTION.

mod(S)  *SURFACE PROPERTY ASSIGNMENT

This option can now be used to assign properties to surfaces in an Abaqus/Standard general contact interaction.

mod(S)(E)  *TRS

Set DEFINITION=ARRHENIUS to specify the new Arrhenius time-temperature shift function.

mod(S)  *UEL PROPERTY

Use the new MATERIAL parameter to specify the material assigned to a user-defined element. Use the new ORIENTATION parameter to specify a local coordinate system for a user-defined element.

mod(E)  *UNIAXIAL TEST DATA

This option can now be used to define uniaxial test data for a low-density foam material.

mod(S)  *USER ELEMENT

Use the new INTEGRATION parameter to specify the number of integration points in a user-defined element. Use the new TENSOR parameter to specify the user-defined element type.
